Checked 2026-10-26 by Agentic Weekly's editorial process: vendor pricing pages re-read.

> No. Anthropic's pricing page, read on 2026-10-26 (America/Chicago), shows Opus as not included on the Free plan and included on Pro (listed at $17 a month billed annually, or $20 billed monthly), Max, Team and Enterprise, and it is available through the API at $4 input and $20 output per million tokens. The Free plan does include Sonnet and Haiku.

## Claude Opus 5.5 by plan

The pricing page's "Models and usage" rows list Opus by plan, not Opus 5.5 by plan specifically. Anthropic's help-center release notes say Opus 5.5 launched on September 22, 2026, so we take "Opus" on these rows to mean the current Opus; we did not test with an account of each type.

Table: Claude plans and Opus access, from Anthropic's pricing page, read 2026-10-26 (America/Chicago)

Prices and plan contents change at Anthropic's discretion; the page says so itself. For the model itself see [Claude Opus 5.5](https://theagenticweekly.com/models/claude-opus-5-5) and the [Claude product page](https://theagenticweekly.com/tools/claude).

## How usage limits work

Anthropic's pricing FAQ says every plan has usage limits that reset on a rolling five-hour session window, and paid plans add weekly limits on top. It says Pro gives at least 5x more usage per five-hour session than Free, and Max gives 5x or 20x more than Pro. There is no fixed message count: how much you can do depends on the length and complexity of your conversations, the model you choose and the features you use. Anthropic adds that it may apply other limits, such as weekly and monthly caps, to manage capacity. We did not find a figure for how many Opus messages a plan allows, and we do not give one.

## Using Opus 5.5 in Claude Code

Anthropic's pricing FAQ says Claude Code is included in all paid plans, shares the same usage limits as the rest of the plan, and that your terminal work and chats draw from one pool; for heavy sessions you can switch to pay-as-you-go API credits through a Console account. The comparison table lists Claude Code as not included on Free. See [Claude Code](https://theagenticweekly.com/tools/claude-code), and [which Claude model should you use](https://theagenticweekly.com/guides/which-claude-model-should-i-use) for choosing between Opus, Sonnet and Haiku.

## API pricing

Opus 5.5 is $4 per million input tokens, $20 per million output tokens, $0.20 cache reads and $5 cache writes (5-minute TTL), per Anthropic's pricing page; batch processing takes 50% off, and a fast mode for Opus 5.5 is listed at 2x standard pricing. The full table is on the [model page](https://theagenticweekly.com/models/claude-opus-5-5).

## Cheaper options if Opus is too expensive

- [Claude Sonnet 5.5](https://theagenticweekly.com/models/claude-sonnet-5-5) is on the Free plan per the pricing table, and is $2 and $10 per million tokens by API.
- Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 is its fastest, most cost-efficient model, and the Free plan lists Haiku too.
- From another vendor: [GPT-6.1 Terra](https://theagenticweekly.com/models/gpt-6-1-terra) lists at $1 and $5 per million tokens; see [GPT-6.1 Terra vs Claude Opus 5.5](https://theagenticweekly.com/compare/gpt-6-1-terra-vs-claude-opus-5-5). We have not tested quality differences.

## What we tested

Nothing. We did not sign in to a Free or Pro account to see whether Opus 5.5 appears in the model picker, and we did not find any statement of a free trial for Opus on the pages we read. Everything above is Anthropic's published wording.

## FAQ

### Can free users use Claude Opus 5.5?

Not according to Anthropic's pricing page on 2026-10-26: its Models and usage table shows Opus as No on the Free plan. It lists Sonnet and Haiku as included on Free.

### Is there a free trial of Claude Opus 5.5?

We found none on the pages we read. The pricing page's Try Claude buttons lead to plan sign-up, and we did not test what they offer, so check the sign-up flow itself before assuming a trial exists.

### When does the free limit reset?

Anthropic says every plan's usage limits reset on a rolling five-hour session window. Free plan details beyond that are not on the page we read, so we cannot say more about the free limit than that.

### What is the Pro usage limit?

Anthropic gives no fixed number. It says Pro gives at least 5x more usage per five-hour session than Free, and that paid plans add weekly limits, and that usage depends on conversation length, the model and the features used.

### Does Claude Code count toward the same limit?

Yes, per Anthropic's pricing FAQ: Claude Code is included in all paid plans and shares the same usage limits as the rest of your plan, so heavy Claude Code use draws on the same allowance as chat.

### Have you tested Claude Opus 5.5 on a free or paid plan?

No. We did not sign in to a Free or Pro account to see whether Opus 5.5 appears in the model picker. Everything on this page is Anthropic's published wording from its pricing page on 2026-10-26.
