OpenAI's fast, lower-cost GPT-6.1 model for visual reasoning, computer use and writing; the successor to GPT-5.6 Terra, priced at half of GPT-6.1 Sol. ## Vendor claims and neutral signals

- Vendor claim (OpenAI): on Agents' Last Exam at medium effort, 15 percentage points above GPT-5.6 Terra at about one-third of the cost. We have not independently measured this.
- At launch it was available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and in the API.

## Notes

- Knowledge cutoff listed: Jun 01, 2026.
- Reasoning effort supports none, low, medium (default), high, xhigh and max. GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra do not support none.
- Tool calling requires the Responses API. Fine-tuning is not supported. Audio and video input are not supported.
- Listed as meeting the Critical threshold in cybersecurity under OpenAI's Preparedness Framework.

## What we tested

Nothing yet. We have not run GPT-6.1 Terra ourselves, so every fact here is Reported from the sources below.

## Not verified, left out

- Benchmark scores: OpenAI's launch post shows Agents' Last Exam, OSWorld 2.1 and MMMU-Pro results as charts whose values are not in the page text, so none are copied here. The text gives Terminal-Bench 4.0 at 50.3% (max effort), which is OpenAI's own figure.
- Speed: OpenAI says Terra completes tasks over three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol; we found no independent latency measurement, so no speed figure is listed.
