> Google's Gemini API release notes say that on October 30, 2026 it "Released the Computer Use tool to general availability" across the Interactions and GenerateContent APIs. On October 27 it shipped a beta Gemini API CLI, gemini-api, aimed at AI coding agents, scripts and CI pipelines.

## What changed

- Computer Use, the Gemini API tool that lets a model drive a browser, mobile or desktop screen from screenshots, moved to general availability on October 30, 2026.
- GA covers both the Interactions API and the older GenerateContent API, per the changelog entry.
- Google's docs name Gemini 3.8 Flash as the recommended Computer Use model, with Gemini 4 Argon and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite also supported.
- On October 27 Google released gemini-api in beta: a stateless, zero-dependency command-line client for coding agents, scripts and CI that runs text, media, file analysis and managed agents on the Interactions API.

## Early verdict

Worth a look if you build browser or desktop agents on Gemini: Computer Use is no longer a preview, and gemini-api gives coding agents a plain CLI into the Interactions API. (Basis: Based only on Google's release notes and docs; we have not run either.)

## What we have not verified

- We did not build a Computer Use agent or run the gemini-api CLI.
- Google's changelog gives dates, not times; pricing and rate limits for GA Computer Use were not checked.
