Supabase MCP server 0.16.0 turns on notebook tools for agents

Supabase released mcp-server-supabase 0.16.0 on November 5, 2026. It enables the create_notebook and run_notebook tools by default, adds delete_notebook with an elicitation confirmation, lets agents run selected notebook cells, and bounds run_notebook cost (notebooks with more than 50 query cells are refused).

What changed

Changes the sources report, with the evidence status of each
#What the source saysStatus
01Notebook tools go live: the notebooks feature group now registers create_notebook and run_notebook by default; before 0.16.0 they sat behind an internal unreleasedNotebookTools option and only list_notebooks and get_notebook were exposed.Reported
02New delete_notebook tool asks the user to confirm through MCP form elicitation before deleting, can be skipped with skip_elicitations=delete_notebook, and is refused on clients without form elicitation while confirmation is on.Reported
03Bounded run_notebook cost: a notebook with more than 50 query cells is refused before anything runs, and once the run's roughly 1 MB result budget is spent, later query cells come back as skipped instead of executing.Reported
04Agents can now run selected notebook cells instead of a whole notebook, and client-caused notebook refusals are returned as caller errors.Reported
05SQL and schema fixes: planner-only EXPLAIN no longer triggers the destructive-SQL confirmation, list_tables gains partition_of and reports partition foreign keys once, and check expressions for NOT VALID and NO INHERIT constraints are returned in full.Reported

“skip destructive confirmation for planner-only EXPLAIN”

What we have not verified

  • We did not install or run mcp-server-supabase 0.16.0 or try the notebook tools ourselves.
  • The 50-cell and roughly 1 MB limits come from the pull request description, which calls 50 a starting value; they may change in later releases.
  • The pull request says hosted Supabase honours the per-cell log budget only once its platform pin includes this change; we did not confirm when that happens.
