Grok 5 release date: not out yet, and xAI has announced no date
As of 2026-10-27 (America/Chicago), xAI has not released Grok 5 and has not announced a release date. The newest model in xAI's developer release notes is Grok 4.7, available on the API since September 21, 2026 with a 500,000-token context window. The latest October entry in those notes is Grok Voice 3.0, dated October 14.

What xAI has said about Grok 5
Nothing dated, in the pages we read. The release notes contain no Grok 5 entry and no announced date, and the Grok 4.7 model page does not mention a successor. A secondary report, Pogwire (October 16, 2026), reaches the same conclusion and adds that Elon Musk has posted about Grok 5 on X; we did not verify those posts, and a post is not a release date.
A market page that aggregates prediction-market prices describes xAI as having previewed Grok 5 on October 14, 2026. We could not confirm that: xAI's release notes show only Grok Voice 3.0 on that date, so we do not treat it as a fact.
What the 2026 pattern shows, and what it does not
xAI's 2026 API releases have been 4-series updates: Grok 4.20 in March, then 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 at roughly five- to six-week intervals from July to September (our arithmetic from the dates above). That pattern does not tell you when, or whether, a model called Grok 5 will follow, and xAI has not said. Treat any specific Grok 5 date you see elsewhere as a rumor until it appears in xAI's release notes.
