Is Kimi K3.1 Pro open-weight? Status of the Nov 4 promise

As of 2026-10-26, 9:51 PM CDT (America/Chicago), Kimi K3.1 Pro's weights have not been released: Moonshot AI says "Full model weights will be released by Nov 4, 2026", and we found no K3.1 Pro repository in Moonshot's Hugging Face organization when we checked. The model is already available through Kimi apps and the Kimi API.

Checked by Agentic Weekly's editorial process: vendor pages and Hugging Face listing re-read.

What Moonshot said

Moonshot's blog calls K3.1 Pro "our most capable 3T-class open-weight model to date, with a 1-million-token context window" and says the full weights "will be released by Nov 4". It also describes an "open-weight release decision" for K3.1 Pro in which it removed cyber-related data from two training stages. We have not seen the weights, a model card or a license for K3.1 Pro, so until they appear we do not call it open-weights on our own pages; see the K3.1 Pro model page.

What is on Hugging Face right now

Checked 2026-10-26, 9:51 PM CDT (America/Chicago): Moonshot's organization lists no K3.1 Pro repository. A search for "Kimi-K3.1" returned only one third-party repository, which is not Moonshot's, and which we did not evaluate. The earlier Kimi K3 is on Hugging Face as moonshotai/Kimi-K3, tagged with a license of "other" named kimi-k3. That does not tell us the K3.1 Pro license.

License and running it locally

License: not published for K3.1 Pro as far as we have seen, so we state nothing about what you may do with it. Size and hardware: Moonshot describes it only as "3T-class" with a 1-million-token context window; we have no model card to quote, and we have not run it. If you later want to run open weights locally, see our pages on Ollama and llama.cpp, and check whether they support the release before downloading anything large.

API and pricing today

Until the weights land, the API is the way to use it. Per Moonshot's pricing page (rates checked by Moonshot on Oct 24, 2026), kimi-k3.1-pro is $2.00 input, $10.00 output and $0.20 cached input per million tokens, with flat per-token pricing across its 1,048,576-token context window. The Highspeed variant is $4.00 input and $20.00 output with the same $0.20 cached input. More on Kimi K3.1 Pro and Kimi K3.1 Pro Highspeed; for coding use see best LLM for coding.

How we update this page

We plan to check Hugging Face again each day through Nov 5 and to change the status line only after we see a Moonshot repository with files in it. A promise or a social-media post is not a release.

What we tested

We tested nothing about the model itself. The only check we ran is looking at Moonshot's Hugging Face organization on 2026-10-26 (9:51 PM CDT) for a K3.1 Pro repository, and we found none. Everything else is Moonshot's published wording.

FAQ

Are Kimi K3.1 Pro weights out?

Not as of 2026-10-26, 9:51 PM CDT: Moonshot's Hugging Face organization showed no K3.1 Pro repository when we checked. Moonshot says full weights will be released by Nov 4, 2026, so check the organization page again after that date.

Is Kimi K3.1 Pro open source or only open weights?

Moonshot calls it an open-weight model. Open weights are not the same as open source, and we have not seen a license or the weights, so we make no claim beyond Moonshot's wording.

What license will Kimi K3.1 Pro use?

Unknown. It was not published where we looked. The earlier Kimi K3 repository on Hugging Face is tagged with license "other", named kimi-k3, but that is a different model, so do not assume K3.1 Pro will carry the same terms.

Can I run Kimi K3.1 Pro with Ollama or llama.cpp?

Not yet: there are no weights to load as of our check, and we have not confirmed support in either tool. Once weights appear, check each project's own documentation for supported model formats before planning a local setup.

How much does the Kimi K3.1 Pro API cost meanwhile?

$2.00 input, $10.00 output and $0.20 cached input per million tokens for kimi-k3.1-pro; $4.00 and $20.00 for Highspeed, per Moonshot's pricing page (rates checked Oct 24, 2026). Check the page for current rates, as list prices can change.

Have you tested Kimi K3.1 Pro?

No. We have not run the model through the Kimi apps or API. This page reports Moonshot's statements, its pricing page and a check of its Hugging Face organization on 2026-10-26, nothing more.
