Where GPT-6.1 Terra sits in our data
- Released Oct 26, 2026 (week 44 of 2026), in October 2026. Other models in our data released that month: Kimi K3.1 Pro, Kimi K3.1 Pro Highspeed, Nemotron 3.5 Bolt E4B (4GB), Voxtral 3, Mercury 3, MiniMax M3.1 Flash.
- The previous OpenAI model we track is GPT-6.1 Sol (Sep 29, 2026), 27 days earlier.
- Of the 60 models in our data with a published context window, GPT-6.1 Terra has the largest (1.05M tokens). Our data is not every model on the market.
- OpenAI tools we cover: Codex CLI, ChatGPT, OpenAI Agents SDK.
- All releases by date: AI model releases by month · new AI models this week. Choosing for code: best LLM for coding.
How GPT-6.1 Terra differs from GPT-6.1 Sol
Read from the recorded facts of the two models, not from a head-to-head test. We have not run either.
- Listed price is $1 in and $5 out, against $2 in and $10 out for GPT-6.1 Sol (per 1M tokens).
- Both list a 1.05M-token context window.
- Both accept text, image as input.
- GPT-6.1 Terra came out 27 days after GPT-6.1 Sol.
- Facts for the other model: GPT-6.1 Sol.
What the sources say
These are claims from the linked pages, not our measurements.
- Vendor claim (OpenAI): on Agents' Last Exam at medium effort, 15 percentage points above GPT-5.6 Terra at about one-third of the cost. We have not independently measured this.
- At launch it was available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and in the API.
Notes
- Knowledge cutoff listed: Jun 01, 2026.
- Reasoning effort supports none, low, medium (default), high, xhigh and max. GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra do not support none.
- Tool calling requires the Responses API. Fine-tuning is not supported. Audio and video input are not supported.
- Listed as meeting the Critical threshold in cybersecurity under OpenAI's Preparedness Framework.
What we tested
Nothing yet. We have not run GPT-6.1 Terra ourselves, so every fact on this page is Reported from the sources below. When we do test it, the scope will be stated here and in our test logs. See methodology.
Not verified, left out
We could not confirm these on a vendor page, so we do not state them.
- Benchmark scores: OpenAI's launch post shows Agents' Last Exam, OSWorld 2.1 and MMMU-Pro results as charts whose values are not in the page text, so none are copied here. The text gives Terminal-Bench 4.0 at 50.3% (max effort), which is OpenAI's own figure.
- Speed: OpenAI says Terra completes tasks over three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol; we found no independent latency measurement, so no speed figure is listed.
