Letterpress-1: Letter's beta coding agent that opens growth and SEO pull requests on git-hosted sites

Letterpress-1 is a coding agent from Letter that its site calls "the world's first coding agent, harness and IDE for growth engineering". It works on teams' git-hosted marketing sites through Build, Plan and Fix modes, and Letter's agent docs list 760 tools over MCP, REST and a CLI.

What changed

Changes the sources report, with the evidence status of each
#What the source saysStatus
01Letter has launched Letterpress-1, a coding agent and harness aimed at teams that keep their marketing site in git; it fixes site issues and builds growth changes as pull requests.Reported
02It ships with three modes: Build (a page or feature from a prompt, keeping brand copy and visuals), Plan (pick a goal, get a build plan) and Fix (find site issues and dispatch fix pull requests).Reported
03Letter's agent docs say each build runs sandbox, then pull request, then preview, and that other agents can connect to an MCP server at app.letterstory.com over OAuth; the MCP manifest, OpenAPI spec and API reference form one registry of 760 tools.Reported
04A terminal client installs from npm as @letterstory/letterpress (version 0.1.30 on the npm registry when we checked); the docs also list webhooks for article.published, article.finished, arena_run.paused and arena_run.settled.Reported
05Pricing is a token pool: Basic is $100 a month for 10,000 tokens, Growth $1,000 for 130,000, and Enterprise $10,000 for two million; past the pool Basic and Starter pay $50 per 1,000 tokens, and every account starts with 5,000 free tokens.Reported
06Agent runs are billed at model cost plus 20%, which the pricing page says is typically 150 to 900 tokens per pull request; built-in add-ons include AI-visibility answers (12 tokens each) and identified visitors (25 tokens each).Reported

Primary source: Letter: Letterpress-1 homepage. We are the fast, independent index; the vendor’s own page is the source of record for this release.

Who it matters for

Marketing and growth teams whose site lives in a git repo and who want an agent to open SEO, AI-search and conversion pull requests for review, plus developers who already drive Claude Code or Codex and want to call the same functions over MCP. Teams on a hosted CMS without git, or anyone who only needs a general coding agent, can ignore it.

The only comparison on the site is a single side-by-side landing page against Codex chosen by Letter, and no benchmark is published, so treat quality claims as marketing until independent results appear.

In the source’s words

“Letterpress-1 is designed for teams using git: autonomously fix website issues and build growth strategies via pull requests.”

“The MCP manifest, the OpenAPI spec and that page are one registry: 760 tools, one schema each.”

“Agent runs are priced at what the models cost plus 20%, so you never pay for a model you didn't use.”

What we have not verified

  • We did not run this release ourselves.
  • Letter's claim that Letterpress-1 produces more tasteful changes than Codex rests on one vendor-chosen example; no benchmark is published.
  • Letter says it combines frontier models with fine-tuned small models but does not name them or their sizes.
  • The beta status comes from press coverage; Letter's pages carry no launch date, so the source publish time is left blank.
  • We did not create an account, so the free-token allowance, the 760-tool registry and the MCP OAuth flow are as documented, not tested.
