OpenCode v2.2.0 adds experimental desktop plugins and image generation APIs, and removes the GitHub Action
OpenCode v2.2.0 (October 27, 2026) adds experimental desktop plugins, experimental image and decision generation APIs for plugins and the SDK, keyed session instructions that avoid busting the prompt cache, and configurable prompt-cache TTLs; it also makes the @opencode/ai root the Promise API, removes the OpenCode GitHub Action, and requires OpenTUI 0.7 for TUI plugins.

What changed
- Desktop plugins (experimental): you can create, install and share plugins for the OpenCode desktop app, which also gets a refreshed experience.
- Experimental image and decision generation APIs are added to plugins and the SDK, plus image and decision entry points for catalog providers.
- Plugins can attach keyed session instructions with ctx.session.instructions.entry.put/list/remove; the release notes say each change is added at the next step instead of editing the system prompt, so it does not bust the prompt cache, survives compaction and reverts, and does not start an extra model turn.
- Prompt-cache TTLs are now configurable per provider and model, and the desktop app's task-list tool returns as an opt-in.
- Breaking: the @opencode/ai package root now exports the Promise API (the Effect API moves to @opencode/ai/effect and @opencode/ai/promise is removed), and the OpenCode GitHub Action is no longer published; the notes say to remove it from workflows.
- Breaking: TUI plugins now need @opentui/core and @opentui/solid 0.7.0; plugins on OpenTUI 0.6 fail to install until they upgrade.
In the source’s words
“The OpenCode GitHub Action is no longer published. Remove it from your workflows.”
Early verdict
Upgrade if you build OpenCode plugins or want desktop plugins; before upgrading, update @opencode/ai imports, move TUI plugins to OpenTUI 0.7, and drop the OpenCode GitHub Action from CI.
Basis: Based only on the v2.2.0 release notes; we have not run this version.
What we have not verified
- We did not install v2.2.0 or try desktop plugins or the image APIs.
- The release notes do not name a replacement for the removed GitHub Action.
