Good for
- Organizations on Gemini Code Assist Standard or Enterprise (Google says their access is unchanged)
- People using Gemini CLI with a paid Gemini API key
- Developers who want an open-source Apache-2.0 terminal agent they can read and extend

Best for
- Best AI tool for AI coding agents: Still maintained for enterprise and paid API key users, but Google steers everyone else to Antigravity CLI.
What’s new
Gemini CLI v0.65.0 is a fix-heavy stable release (session resume, OAuth, workspace trust) with custom OTLP headers for telemetry. The bigger story: Google says Gemini CLI stopped serving consumer plans in June 2026 in favor of Antigravity CLI.
- Custom OTLP headers are now supported in telemetry configuration.
- Workspace settings are enforced as read-only in untrusted folders.
- Fixes for session resume: duplicate tool-response turns and history deletion on a quick exit.
- OAuth fixes: callback iss validation aligned with RFC 9207 and fixes for infinite verification and retry loops.
- Fix for a hang on the Enter key in interactive mode, plus several terminal UI fixes.
- Performance: ignore filtering optimized with subtree pruning.
How to set it up: Try Gemini CLI (paid API key or enterprise) and know your alternative
Install commands come from the README. We have not run Gemini CLI. Consumer-plan users should read Google's transition post first.
Check which plan you are on
Per Google's May 19, 2026 announcement, Gemini CLI stopped serving requests for Google AI Pro and Ultra and for free individual use on June 18, 2026. Enterprise licenses and paid API keys keep access.
Run it without installing
