These are statements by OpenAI's CEO to the press, quoted from the articles we read on Oct 27, 2026. They are not a filing or an OpenAI announcement, so we label them Reported.

  • Sept 12, 2026: in an interview with Fortune, Altman said an IPO this year is "ill-timed" given the safety concerns, and Fortune writes that it "won't take place until 2027" (Fortune, Sept 12, 2026).
  • Oct 5, 2026: Fortune's longer write-up quotes Altman: "Given everything happening with safety, this right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public" (Fortune, Oct 5, 2026).
  • Sept 30, 2026: The Verge reports Altman said after his DevDay keynote that OpenAI has to be able to make "confident safety claims" first, with "no firm timeline in sight", and that waiting too long would also be "bad for the world" (The Verge, Sept 30, 2026).

Reuters also covered the Sept 12 interview; we could not open that page this run, so we do not rely on it. OpenAI's own June 8 statement above has not been updated by any new OpenAI filing.
